My Remote Odyssey #1

Hey there, welcome to my little corner of the internet! I'm proudly waving the remote work flag, and if you're wondering, yes, I've been doing the whole work-from-home mom gig since 2020—the official initiation year of juggling Zoom calls while simultaneously keeping a tiny human entertained.

Picture this: I'm in the Learning and Development department of a Food and Beverage company when the pandemic crashes the party. Suddenly, remote work is the cool kid on the block, and guess what? My department gets the golden ticket to work from home. It's like a bizarre episode of a reality show—COVID Edition.

Now, rewind a bit. I've been in the workforce since dinosaurs roamed the earth (okay, maybe not that long, but you get the idea). From BPO to insurance to making coffee, my career journey reads like a Choose Your Own Adventure novel. And yes, daily commutes in the Philippines are practically a cardio workout.

But, plot twist! The pandemic becomes my work-from-home fairy godmother. No more daily grind in traffic; instead, I'm hanging with my son, Wolfe. Turns out, witnessing his every toddler milestone beats staring at taillights any day.

My office was just launching our Learning Management System and then the pandemic happened. Suddenly, I'm the online training guru, mastering Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams like a tech-savvy ninja. Who knew a 'How to Give Killer Online Presentations' workshop could be a thing?

In 2020, a friend pitches a fully remote job opportunity. Two jobs, one pandemic, and a whole lot of coffee later, I'm part of the rise-of-the-remote-workers movie (or at least, it feels like it). Fast forward, and I'm not just an employee; I'm the Head of People and Culture in a growing remote headhunter company.

And yes, I've had my brief stint as a home-based ESL instructor, but let's be real, the pay was so-so, and I practically had a keyboard imprint on my face from working crazy hours.

Now, in 2023, I'm living my best life—traveling, balancing mom duties, and proving you can be you while making a living. This blog? It's my virtual diary on the ups, downs, and hilarious moments of remote work. Stick around for the next entry, where I spill the beans on how to dive into the wild world of remote work without losing your sanity.

Curly mom,
Pammy
